Howitzer - The CLI Helper
Hey everyone, I wanted to share a quick update on what I’ve been working on recently. Here are the highlights
How CLI: Your CLI tutor using GPT-4o
One of the main projects I’ve been focused on is developing a Command Line Interface (CLI) tool. This tool is designed to function as a Q&A assistant, leveraging the GPT-4o API to convert plain text questions into executable commands.
For example, if you ask, "How do I check latency to thewriting.dev?" the tool not only generates the appropriate command but also provides an explanation of what it does. Running the command gives you the output directly in the CLI. Another example would be asking, "How do I check my laptop specs?" The tool will respond with details such as the number of cores and memory available.
Currently, the tool is running on GPT-4o, and I’m working on adding a settings menu to allow users to configure the initial prompt. I'm also exploring AI Agents, which offers advanced process automation capabilities.
SponsoredJobs.uk: Tailoring Job Listings for Visa Applicants
Another significant project is SponsoredJobs.uk, a platform that helps people find jobs to relocate to the UK. It curates a list of companies in the UK sponsoring work visas. The goal is to keep this list updated and send targeted email notifications to users based on their job preferences and locations, such as London, Liverpool or Manchester.
The idea is to eventually offer sorting options by visa routes, like the Skilled Worker Visa. This service aims to help individuals like myself who are navigating the job market under specific visa requirements in the UK, or for people planning to relocate. I plan to monetize this by charging software engineers for access to this curated database and additional services like email filtering.
While the desktop UI is decent, the mobile version needs work. Issues like broken gradients and horizontal scrolling make for a subpar user experience. Fixing these is a priority before fully marketing the website.
Feedback and Future Plans
I’m always open to feedback and suggestions on these projects. If you have any thoughts on what more could be done or improvements that could be made, feel free to reach out.
These are the key projects I’m immersed in at the moment, and I look forward to refining them further with your input!
